Opel instrument cluster repair
On Opel clusters we most often repair the MID information display: on Astra, Vectra, Zafira and Omega it loses rows of pixels until the text is unreadable. The cause is almost always the display ribbon cable, which we replace.
Symptoms we repair
- Dead pixels - the information display shows lines or is partly unreadable
- Weak or non-working display backlight
- Speed or RPM needle stuck or reading incorrectly (stepper motors)
- Display flickers, works intermittently or goes dark
- Cluster completely dead or will not power on
Common faults
On the Opel MID (board information) display the pixels vanish row by row, and the culprit is almost always the ribbon cable between the display and the board: the contact loses grip over time. We replace the ribbon and restore full readability. Astra H, Zafira B and Vectra C clusters also suffer cold solder joints that make the cluster act up intermittently; we re-solder them. Dim or uneven backlighting is restored in the same repair.
